Beta Suiter in the Beta-suit

The Beta Suiter a.k.a the Protagonist, also generically called the Player, is the main player character of TimeShift.

Usually referred to as "You" which is the only name ever given to the main character of the story. "You" does not have an official name, nor a nickname. It is highly obvious to many players of the game's story that "you" are a man. Another bit of proof that the Beta Suiter is a man is that he is sometimes called “son”, and by death, landing and several other noises of exertion made, they are sounds that a man would make, further proving that he is indeed a man.

The Beta Suiter often has memory flashbacks to his past, and among them he often sees Dr. Marissa Foster, where a romantic relationship between the two is made evident.

Although initially they seem to be a scientist working on the time travel suits, later cut scenes suggest he is an agent of a unknown agency assigned to eliminate Dr Krone if he attempts a time jump (Probably to prevent the main alternate time-stream the game takes place in), however it does seem that the Beta Suiter would need to have qualifications in the relevant fields to work at N.E.X.T 2. It is also worth noting that nothing is really known about their past before N.E.X.T 2, making them even more mysterious.

The Beta Suiter takes the un-completed Beta Suit and follows Dr. Aiden Krone in to his own time-stream where he is a tyrannical ruler after he used the Alpha suit to make a Time-Jump. The Beta Suiter's use of the Beta Suit which is the major defining mechanic of the game, despite the suit not being ready. Parts of the Beta Suit's auto-return system is damaged during his Time-Jump, leaving him to eventually help the Occupant Rebellion in efforts to stop Krone's Magistrate, and get the other part of the auto-return device from Krone's less powerful Alpha Suit, where the former resides in a huge metal mech, Krone's sentinel.

The Beta Suiter never talks or speaks in-game. Also the Beta Suiter never responds or talk back to characters in the game, especially to his allies, such as Occupant commander Cooke, the soldiers of the Occupant Rebellion as well as other characters in the game's cut scenes, making the Beta Suiter somewhat of a silent protagonist in some games.

Eventually, he ultimately defeats Krone and his Magistrate and retrieves the missing part of the auto return system. Using that, he Time-Jump's back to the facility, lands where Krone earlier in the game’s story made the Time-Jump in the Alpha Suit. The explosion which destroyed the facility early in the game‘s story happens but the Beta Suiter managed to use the Time-Reverse and Time-Stop features, which causes the bomb and the facility to be a few moments before the explosion. He successfully turns off the detonation timer on the bomb which Krone also planted in the facility, saving everyone and the facility in the process. However when he goes to remove his mask to reveal himself to his waking up girlfriend, Dr. Foster, a paradox occurs and the suit sends him to safety to a unknown destination. What happened to the Beta Suiter or the suit after that is unknown, as he is never seen again.
